This is a classic dessert, brownies with vanilla ice-cream. For years however, Mumbai has boasted the most incredible version of this dessert served at its oldest restaurants (Cream Centre, Bombay Blues and The New Yorker) all located in South Mumbai. The sizzling brownie is a glorified rendition of the brownie sundae and I haven’t met one person who hasn’t fallen in love with it. Served on a sizzler (hot) plate comes a brownie covered with a sea of warm chocolate fudge that is literally sizzling, topped with chopped roasted almonds and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and another drizzle of chocolate fudge. When the waiter drops it off at the table it takes severe self-control to not bite into it because the smell is heavenly, however doing that will cause you to burn every taste bud in your mouth.
Honestly, I have eaten the sizzling brownie since I was a little kid and I can still taste it as I write this post. It is one of those desserts that’s a classic – one of those desserts that after you take a bite, you know everything in the world will be okay. If you have no plans to visit Mumbai anytime soon, you can recreate this dessert yourself all you need is a sizzler plate, brownies, hot fudge, vanilla ice-cream and some roasted almonds.
